day 2
Yesterday was really fun. The market was really really cool. On the way home we talked to so many little kids, they all run up and say "mambo" or "shikamoo" or "hello" or ... no i'm just kidding I'll stop now. We met many local young people yesterday. They are so fun. I learned "poa kichizi kama ndizi" (crazy cool like a banana). And they gave me an kiswahili name which is "sawadi" (saa waa dee) it means 'gift'. Today we are going to the market again, and then probably just hanging out at the house. Orientation is tomorrow. My group is really fun, and the other volunteers are nice too but they are so close, and have so many inside jokes and experiences that it's difficult to relate to them sometimes. Yesterday my friend and I were walking home and we didn't know where to turn so we kept asking the little ones "do you know where our house is??" and they did. Nelson took us home...he lives across from us...his mom (mama nelson) makes skirts and other clothing for us if we want her to. I bought some fabric that I might get made into a skirt but I want another fabric as well. I haven't seen the mountain yet...it's too cloudy! but I know it's right there, lurking. Thanks for the comments on the last post! I love hearing from you all. Hakuna matata badai (later) Maggie ps. I'll post pictures next time I update! :)

Shiloh says arf arf arf arf arf arf arf arf arf arf. It hasn't stopped raining since you left. Robert says hi. Bill starts his new job at SPX tomorrow at 8 a.m. We saw Kelly's new house yesterday. It's beautiful! Mother is going full steam on remodeling the kitchen. It looks like it will be out of use for 5 weeks. She says 3, but I don't believe it. I love reading about your adventure. Daisy was enthusiastic telling me about it. Arf arf arf arf arf, right it's still raining. Love Dad
Maggie, I am so excited for you that I hardly know what to say! I keep trying to picture you. I see colorful fabrics, smiling little people in various shades of brown and mahogany, and a cloud covered sky that is hiding a vast mountain and terrain. There you are twirling around in fascination and amazement, eyes filled with joy. I told your Dad of my memory of the film "the Snows of Kilimanjaro," but I can't imagine the panorama in person.
Thank you for sharing the details with all of us.
Lots of love from all,
Aunt Daisy
Good Morning Sunshine. I had the best Mother's day yesterday. We took Bill shopping for his internship wardrobe. He looked smashing in everything he tried on. Then he came home and washed all his new dress shirts. I taught him how to iron them and shared Grandpa's best practice of getting his weekly wardrobe ready each weekend. The exercise bike is now in your bedroom. We are getting ready for the kitchen renovation. The new appliances will be delivered sometime today. They will be stored in the dining room. So the dining room table and chairs are in the living room. You really planned this adventure well. I love you - Mom
Hey Maggie! I just read your last blog, sounds like you'll get along well there!
I just thought I'd let you know I had come across an article about you in the MPDCI "Beaver Bulletin" about your trip to Tanzania. I was reassigning a new E-mail for myself, and found an old E-mail still active! As I downloaded all the unsent E-mail, the "Beaver Bulletin" was amongst them. As I read "Maggie, 18", I soon recalled about a "maggie 18" going to Africa, and it hit me, you are the same maggie who posted about your trip. Without exposing too much privacy, I'm known as "65rosessamurai", so it it obvious someone is thinking of you!
Now, I can put your blog address in my "Favorites" and see how you are doing. Hope all is still fine!
-Fred-
(P.S. I didn't know you were from Michigan, too!)
I came across an article on kilimanjaro yesterday and wondered if you can see the mountain yet? Are you stationed in a lush valley or is it dry? What are your accommodations like? I can imagine that you are quite busy with orientation.
Thinking of you and sending lots of love from all
Aunt Daisy
wow, it sounds like you are having a great time. Don't worry about everyone in your group, in a couple of weeks i'm sure you'll have plenty of inside jokes as well. I can't believe that you're over there right now-it is like my dream to go to africa. But i want to explore Egypt more than anything. I can't wait for your pictures. Haha, and it is still raining :)

Hi Maggie,
Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. I can't wait to hear about all of your experiences, and all the people you are meeting. What kind of games do the children like to play? Is the weather dry or humid?....Remember when you get homesick, look up at the stars. We are looking at the same sky and are just across the way. Love you a ton!..Kerri
... once the promise of posting pictures was made, days and days went by with nothing...
Where is Maggie? Where is Maggie?
We miss hearing from you. Are you working hard?
Bill is enjoying his Internship. He has a photo ID, desk, computer, passwords and is learning the processes and systems. Today he will get his first assignment. Hugs from Mom
I finally got your web address right. It is really great! Kerri's right we are all looking at the same sky. All your cousins are keeping you in their prayers and are thrilled that you made it. We love you and miss you. Aunt Pat
Maggie, I am very excited about your venture. I did not realize that it was already time for you to leave. What a wonderful opportunity you have that many will never experience. You have a beautiful heart and will be a blessing to each of the children's centers. We will be praying for you and your team daily.
Blessings, JoAnn Bastien
